Dr. Elizabeth Gausden is an Assistant Attending Orthopedic Surgeon specializing in hip and knee musculoskeletal care, including primary and revision hip and knee replacement. Her clinical expertise is in adult lower extremity reconstructive surgery and orthopedic trauma. She performs both anterior and posterior approaches to the hip and utilizes computer navigation and robotic surgery. A Wisconsin native, Dr. Gausden completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Wisconsin, graduating with distinction. She then attended Weill Cornell Medical College, where she was elected to the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. She completed her orthopedic surgery residency at the Hospital for Special Surgery where she received the Jean McDaniel Award from her colleagues in recognition for her patient care and teaching. During her orthopedic surgery residency training, Dr. Gausden also earned a Master of Public Health degree from Harvard University. Following residency, Dr. Gausden completed two fellowships: hip and knee arthroplasty at the Mayo Clinic and orthopedic trauma surgery at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, the nation's busiest orthopedic trauma center. This dual training has afforded Dr. Gausden with a unique expertise in periprosthetic fractures, post-traumatic arthritis, and post-traumatic deformities of the hip and knee. Dr. Gausden believes in individualized patient care, and seeks to improve patient outcomes through research. Her award-winning research focuses on improving outcomes following periprosthetic fractures. She is the author of over 50 journal articles, numerous book chapters, and has been invited to present her research internationally.
